Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for the fires that burned yesterday in the territory of the Plovdiv region. According to the director of the Plovdiv Fire Department, Senior Commissioner Vasil Dimov, the cause of the fire near the village of Vedrare in Karlovy Vary was negligence, most likely a discarded cigarette by the side of the road.
In the case of the fire in the “40 Springs” area near Asenovgrad, eyewitnesses indicated that the fire started from two places, which raises doubts about intent, Dimov specified.
The fire is contained, with smoldering areas in places inside its perimeter, which will be tackled manually today.
Military personnel from Asenovgrad, as well as forest officials, help in its final suppression.
No people were injured in the fire yesterday, and no properties were affected. However, beehives of individual farmers burned down. The fire affected 1,500 acres of mixed forest.
Over the past 24 hours, teams of the Plovdiv fire department have intervened in extinguishing 15 fires. Compared to last year, for the month of July there is again an increase in signals, BNT reports.
