OLYMPICS
The two sisters who shone at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are now in a close dispute for a single spot for the 81 kilogram category in Paris 2024.
Both athletes were forced to change categories due to the regulations of the international weightlifting federation. Dajomes, who won the gold medal in Tokyo in the 76 kilogram category, moved up to 81 kg, while Salazar, who won the silver medal, dropped from 87 kg.
The fight for the Olympic quota will take place at the World Weightlifting Championships in Phuket, Thailand, where both athletes will face each other. However, it should be noted that they will not face each other directly, since they are part of different series and will compete at different times. According to the regulations for this Olympic cycle, only one athlete per country will be able to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the 81 kilogram category.
In this sense, Tamara Salazar, currently fourth in the Olympic ranking with a mark of 265 kilograms lifted, has a slight advantage over Neisi Dajomes, who registers 262 kilograms. The World Cup in Thailand, which began on March 31 and will run until April 11, will be the stage where the future for the Olympic competition will be defined.
