The civil society in Goma, North Kivu, opposes the extension of the humanitarian ceasefire for a period of 15 days according to the proposal of the United States of America. Speaking to actu30.cd on Saturday July 20, 2024, the president of this citizen structure declared that this extension is not at all in the interest of the Congolese population, even less a solution for pacification, but in the interest of the attackers (M23 /RDF) as well as those who support them. “Civil society and the entire population think that this is pure and simple distraction, it is a joint action from the attackers as well as the multinational companies that support the attackers, they seek their interest”declared Marrion Ngavho Kambale, president of civil society in Goma. This civil society activist justified his position because of the reality that happened on the ground during the first ceasefire that the M23/RDF rebels violated with several attacks in certain places.

“During this first ceasefire, national and international NGOs and United Nations agencies were not too visible at the bedside of the displaced who today have almost everything, and during this period, unfortunately , the enemy attacked several entities towards South Kivu, towards the Southern-. Behind Lubero and the enemy has regrouped”he added. Marrion Ngavho Kambale also asked the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to be too active and launch attacks against the rebels to drive them out of the national territory.
