A district official who participated in the Chief Minister’s Cup sports tournament died of a heart attack

Dharmapuri: A district official died of a heart attack while participating in a badminton competition for the Chief Minister’s Cup in Dharmapuri.

S. Athiyaman (54) was working as District Commissioner for Sri Lankan Tamil camps in Dharmapuri District. The games for the Dharmapuri district level Chief Minister’s Cup have been going on for the past 2 weeks at the Dharmapuri District Stadium. In which, divisional sports competitions for government employees are currently going on.

Today (20-02-23) the District Collector S. Athiyaman participated in the Badminton Tournament at the District Sports Hall. The local medical team administered first aid to the district official who suddenly fainted in the middle of the game. Later, they took him to Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital in 108 ambulance. However, he died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin condoled his death. Thangameenakshi (50), wife of the late District Collector Athiyaman, is working as a government school teacher. They have a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.

It is worth mentioning that Athiyaman continuously created awareness among the rural youth about competitive exams including TNPSC and encouraged many to go for government jobs. His death has caused grief among government employees of Dharmapuri district.
