The Cuban-American doctor Peter Lamelas was appointed by the president-elect, Donald Trumpfor the position of United States ambassador to Argentina.
This was announced by the president this week, in a statement in which he recalled that Peter fled with his family from communist Cuba when he was a child, while considering him an “amazing doctor, philanthropist and businessman.”

It is indeed worth mentioning that, Peter Lamelas was introduced to argentine President Javier Milei at Mar-a-Lago recently. However, for the appointment of the Argentine ambassador to be official, it must be approved during the formal hearing at the Capitol.
In that sense, the Cuban-born doctor is expected to take office in Buenos Aires in April.
It should be noted that the Antillean has applauded Milei’s agenda,considering that the Argentine president seeks to free that nation from decades of socialism and mismanagement.
“As a Cuban refugee who escaped communism, I have seen firsthand the devastation of socialism,” Lamelas said.
