In a telephone interview with Al-Ikhbariya channel, he said: “Dates are among the fruits rich in fiber, potassium, magnesium, and iron, and there is a sugar content equivalent to 5 grams of sugar per grain.”

He added: “Fruits rich in fiber, the absorption of sugar in the body from the intestine is low, and therefore although it contains sugar, the intestine absorbs small amounts that do not raise the level of sugar unless the person overeats in eating fruits.”

And he continued: “If a diabetic patient takes 3 pills a day, it does not affect the rise in sugar, but if it exceeds that, the level of sugar will rise, and therefore moderation in eating it is very necessary.”

It is worth mentioning that most Muslims prefer to break the fast over dates in Ramadan, because dates are a blessed fruit, and our Holy Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, recommended that we start our breakfast with them in Ramadan. On the authority of Salman bin Amer, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “If If one of you breaks his fast, let him break his fast with dates, for it is a blessing, and if he does not find dates, then water, for it is a purification.” Narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Tirmidhi.
