A serious accident involving an ambulance took place in the center of Asenovgrad on the night of Saturday, NOVA reported. Four people were injured.

The accident happened at the busy intersection next to the city’s bus station. According to preliminary information, the medical vehicle was rushing to an emergency. He had his lights on when he was hit by a car at the intersection.

As a result of the impact, the ambulance turns around and is dragged several meters along the road. A doctor, his medical assistant and a driver were traveling in it. According to eyewitnesses, the doctor was seriously injured. The car was driven by a woman who was traveling alone.

The police are clarifying the reasons that led to the serious accident.

“The ambulance was going to an address. We heard a loud crash and ran to see what we could do. The boys from the neighboring block came before us, broke the windows and took the three people out,” said eyewitness Ivan Pachejiev.

“The chief doctor of the Asenovgrad Hospital was injured. He has injuries on his forehead, right side and left leg,” claims Asen Milkov.

The police announced the reasons that led to the serious accident.

“Around 9:00 p.m. last night, an accident occurred at an intersection in Asenovgrad, in which a Citroen car and an ambulance collided. According to preliminary data, the medical vehicle ran a red signal at the traffic light with the light and sound signals on and hit the vehicle moving on green signal car. Three of the medical team – a doctor, a driver and a medical brother – were examined and released for home treatment, as well as the 56-year-old woman who was driving the Citroen. During the check, it was found that she was under the influence of alcohol – about 0.8 per million , a blood sample was taken from her. The incident has been processed according to administrative order,” the announcement said.
