Over the past few weeks, we have had the opportunity to test HoverAir X1 , an innovative drone that will soon go on sale in Spain. It is a different device: it only weighs 125 grams, it folds to fit in your pocket. It represents a response to a gap that the market leader, DJI, has not wanted to fill, which develops drones focused on photography and video fans, but that leaves out a more casual user, who only wants a good selfie for social networks. social.
The HoverAir X1 is synonymous with extreme portability and ease of use. The propellers are covered in the casing, so they are highly protected. Thanks to this, they do not deform when put in your pocket, and it also makes it more difficult for them to break in a fall.
The simplicity lies in the fact that the device does not need a remote control or a mobile phone to operate, since it fully relies on artificial intelligence and object recognition to fly. If we compare it with a DJI Mini, which weighs 249 grams, but then requires a controller that weighs almost twice as much, the difference is noticeable.
The HoverAir It is so easy to launch, that in the tests, we did not even stop on the bike to fly it and track it. To pick it up is another thing, since it has to ‘see’ the palm of your hand in the lower chamber to land.
Only ten minutes of flight
Despite the advantages, the HoverAir X1 has significant limitations due to its size. Autonomy is short, is less than 10 minutes of flight, which can be reduced considerably depending on the wind. Besides, Its maximum altitude is only 10 meters and its speed is low, especially for tracking, which is no longer reliable after 20 km/h.
The wind affects him a lot, and it doesn’t work at all as soon as it blows a little. Regarding image quality, although it offers 2.7K resolution, and the result is quite good, it does not have nothing to do with drones for photography which have better sensors and lenses.
Although we have the possibility of using HDR at 1080p, we have not noticed much difference compared to the maximum resolution. The ‘gadget’ has all the autonomous modes that we could imagine, but the most interesting is the follow-up which relies on basic obstacle detection to avoid them.

Somewhat behind the competition
Compared to the DJI Mini 4 Pro, the HoverAir X1 falls behind in terms of features such as resolution, autonomy, and obstacle detection capabilities. However, its price is approximately half that, around 500 euros, making it a more accessible option for more casual users who want to take a quick selfie.
