An Oklahoma family had no idea that a birthday present for their nine-year-old son would lead to the birth of 50 baby octopuses.
Cameron Clifford, who is a 36-year-old dentist, said his son Cal had been obsessed with octopuses since he was three. “For every birthday, every Christmas, every holiday, he would always say, ‘All I want is octopus,'” Clifford told the New York Times.

In October, the father called a local aquarium store and got a female California octopus for Cal’s ninth birthday. They call him Terrance.
It turns out to be bigger than expected and soon starts laying eggs – normal for an octopus.

What the family doesn’t expect is that all the eggs are fertilized. The baby octopuses soon begin to hatch, leaving the family with an unexpected new challenge.
But it turns out they are ready to make the commitment and start caring for the new additions to the family, documenting their experiences.
