The horror scene left the police and firefighters in shock who opened the door of the small house on Quai Jean-Baptiste-Clément, in Alfortville, this Sunday. At the beginning of the afternoon, a father presented himself at the Dieppe police station, in Seine-Maritime, to confess to having killed his three children in his apartment in Val-de-Marne, 200 km away.

Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, but they could only note the death of the three children after forcing the door of the locked home. A small house which overlooks the Seine, located below, and which the Sunday walkers looked at this afternoon with sadness.

The two youngest atrociously mutilated

According to the first elements of the investigation – “which is barely getting started”, recalls the Créteil prosecutor’s office – the three children, aged 11, 10 and 5, were discovered in the house: one on the sofa, the other two under a blanket. The bodies of the two youngest were atrociously mutilated. When firefighters found the oldest, they thought they could revive her since she had no stab wounds. In vain. Traces on her neck suggest that she died by strangulation, which will have to be confirmed by the autopsy. The Alfortville town hall is opening a crisis unit this evening to deal with this tragedy.

Numerous staff were deployed on site this Sunday afternoon, including the representative of the Créteil public prosecutor’s office. We do not yet know the circumstances of the tragedy. But the man who presented himself as the father of the children is called Younes, he was born in Morocco forty-one years ago and is already known to the police and justice services.

Already convicted of violence against a minor

On April 29, 2021, he was convicted by the Créteil court for “violence against a spouse in the presence of a minor followed by incapacity not exceeding eight days”, details the prosecution. Acts committed under the threat of a stick. He was also found guilty of violence against a minor under the age of 15 without incapacity. He was sentenced to eighteen months in prison, including twelve months suspended on probation. The firm part of this conviction was carried out under an electronic bracelet. He was also the subject of an investigation for spousal rape, a case dismissed for “insufficiently characterized offense” in July 2021. A protection order for the mother was taken and, according to our information, ended. in spring 2023.

Recently, he again had the right to keep his children. “He was trying to get back together with the mother of his daughters,” relates a source close to the investigation. Why did he go to Dieppe after committing the irreparable? “He has no ties there, we think that he thought about the cliffs, that he wanted to commit suicide and changed his mind,” estimates a police source.

“I can’t believe they’re dead.”

In Marolles-en-Brie (Seine-et-Marne), where the girls lived with their mother – and where the couple lived before the separation – these violent events remain etched in people’s minds. “He was weird,” confides a neighbor. He sometimes drank. The police had come several times. » Passed in front of Samira’s house, the mother, aged 36, this young woman remembers: “I saw the girls again last week, one evening, when I came home from work. I can’t believe they’re dead. » Hanging on a yellow trash can, in front of the front door of the little house where the three little ones lived, a pink umbrella with unicorns.

Another resident whispers: “We are shocked. » The police came here this Sunday late in the afternoon to see Samira and took her to the police station. The three children go to school in Marolles-en-Brie. Contacted by Le Parisien, Alphonse Boye, the mayor of this town, explains that a psychological reception unit will be set up this Monday morning to welcome children to the Buissons school, which is located just behind the housing estate where the family lived.

A little earlier in the day, Luc Carvounas (PS), the mayor of Alfortville, his voice choked with emotion, also announced that “psychological listening cells will obviously be deployed (in his municipality) from this Monday morning after this horrible family tragedy.” In a press release, the councilor added: “This terrible tragedy reminds us of the urgent need to fight even more voluntarily against domestic violence, to strengthen the protection of victims and to further protect our children (…). Alfortville is in mourning this evening, and we are plunged into infinite sadness. »
