The town hall of La Grande-Motte (Hérault) has decided to apply the prefectural decree which prohibits shirtless walks in the streets. The amount of the package is 150 euros.

At La Grande-Motte (Hérault), proper attire is required. Posters are everywhere to remind you that outside the beach or the seafront, it is forbidden to move around bare-chested or in a simple swimsuit. In the event of non-compliance with the rule, holidaymakers risk a fine of 150 euros. “It’s expensive for a beach day”underlines a tourist.

Constraint claimed by traders

The constraint was demanded by the merchants of the city center, exasperated by the behavior of certain vacationers. “There are rules to respect. We have to line up, we are not at the naturist camp (…) it is already a question of hygiene”, explains Vincent Cacheux, restaurateur. To encourage tourists to get dressed, the fine established in 2008 has been increased. For the moment, only a dozen fines have been distributed.
