A power outage affected the south-west of France on Tuesday August 8, announced on social networks RTE, the Electricity Transport Network and relayed by The Dispatch. According to the manager, the breakdown occurred at 2:30 p.m., in the municipalities of Lot, Aveyron and Cantal. “80,000 households were impacted at the height of the blackout,” says RTE. “Since 6:20 p.m., all customers affected by the power cut have been resupplied,” adds the Aveyron prefecture in a press release.

On the other hand, the press release explains that “incidents persist on fixed and mobile telephony”. These problems were to “be fixed in the evening”. “Five personnel present at the scene were slightly injured,” according to the prefecture.

An investigation launched

The incident took place on a high voltage electrical substation located in Aubin which was in a shed. Five RTE employees who worked in the adjoining premises were affected by the smoke that emanated from a burning cable. One of the employees was reportedly burned in the shoulder, another burned in the ear.

Firefighters from nearby fire stations responded to the scene. The employees were taken to hospital for examinations, but their condition did not cause concern, according to RTE management. The manager has planned to maintain surveillance all night “to secure the supply”. An investigation will be launched to determine the causes of the fire.
