Rosenkranz could only count on the votes of the FPÖ and ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos kept the election open, the Greens openly spoke against Rosenkranz. Following the election of Walter Rosenkranz, elections were held for the Second Presidency, for which ÖVP proposed Peter Haubner, and for the Third Presidency, for which Doris Bures from SPÖ wanted to run.
The program also includes the election of committee members, secretaries and representatives.
Controversial FPÖ politician Walter Rosenkranz was elected First President of the National Council on Thursday afternoon. However, in the voting held at the founding session of the National Council, it received only 100 of the 162 valid votes. This corresponds to 61.7 percent.
Unlike ÖVP leader Karl Nehammer, the party’s chairman, August Wöginger, announced before the election that he would vote for Rosenkranz. He assumed that the majority of his group would act the same way. Not all ÖVP deputies responded to this call. This is because FPÖ and ÖVP together have 108 votes.
Peter Haubner and Doris Bures were nominated for the posts of Second President and Third President, respectively.
