“Atlas Tsuchinshan” can be seen with the naked eye

Already in the early evening, a very large full moon rose in the southeast. The full moon was reached on Thursday at 1:26 pm

It comes particularly close to us at a distance of almost 360,000 kilometers in its elliptical orbit. The distance can be up to 406,000 kilometers.

Super full moon and faint comet over Salzburg

To our eyes, the difference between a full moon and a super full moon is roughly equivalent to comparing a one-euro coin to a two-euro coin. “It’s not much, but it’s still great to look at,” said the Salzburg astronomer Helmut Windhager in an interview with SALZBURG24 on Thursday. The bright circle seems particularly powerful, especially when it is low and compared to objects on the horizon.

The brightness of the comet is rather dim in comparison. “Atlas Tsuchinshan” can be seen in the west with its long tail. The Salzburg astronomers at the observatory on Haunsberg in Flachgau around Windhager were waiting for clear night weather and a beautiful photo for days. Windhager reveals that “half” of the image of the comet was taken on the Postalm on Wednesday. But there is always a light veil of clouds hanging over the way.
