Criminalists in the Medkovets village precinct reported a staged theft of money from a car. This was announced by the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Montana.
At 2:45 p.m. on August 4, a 23-year-old man from Medkovets reported to the police that BGN 1,350 had been stolen from his car parked in front of his home in the village. The theft occurred through a non-closing window of the car.
An on-site inspection was conducted, and during the investigation, forensic experts discovered that the night before reporting the theft, the young man had made 13 deposits on two online platforms for internet bets, totaling BGN 1,310. He also purchased 160 BGN on the same day.
During the investigation, it was established that the applicant had a gambling addiction. The National Revenue Agency (NAA) requested that he be entered in the register of addicts to prevent further gambling. During a conversation with the police, the 23-year-old man confessed to staging the theft. A witness who had been present during some of the depositions was also identified.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
The police directorate in Montana stated that such staged thefts are rare in the region, but have occurred in previous years, but not in 2024.
