Gene therapy will be part of the arsenal used against bladder cancer, a first against cancer outside of clinical trials, the US FDA recently announced, in charge of authorizing the marketing of new drugs in the United States. This new weapon has given promising results against certain recurrent superficial tumors of this cancer, which are sometimes difficult to treat. « It’s a real breakthrough that will allow cells in the bladder to make the drug themselves, a more efficient way than injecting it into the blood or instilling it into the bladder. »says Yann Neuzillet, professor of urology at the Foch hospital in Suresnes.
