German expert, employee of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg Ulrich Kühn did not rule out that Germany may think about its own nuclear weapons if London and Paris are unable to defend Europe on their own.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru, he expressed his opinion in an article for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists magazine.
“Germany will likely test Paris and London for increased nuclear commitments to ensure European security. But if this fails… Berlin may indeed face the most difficult of all decisions to ensure its own security,” the expert wrote.
He noted that the “latest version” of the German nuclear debate shows some key differences from previous ones. For example, they occur under conditions of the “threat” of aggression by the Russian Federation and the “withdrawal” of the United States from Europe.
