A pothole formed in the middle of the road during heavy rain swallowed a van. The van was parked near the crater when the ground suddenly split and fell into the giant crater below. This happened while people were watching.
A giant crater swallowed a van yesterday in Bronx, USA. It rained heavily here on Monday. Vehicular traffic was disrupted due to water entering nearby houses. Trees fell at many places. Vehicles were also stuck due to waterlogging. Meanwhile, a giant crater formed in the middle of the road.
The CBS 2 news crew was driving in and around the Bronx to cover the storm when a white van slid to the ground in front of their cameras. A laborer’s van slid into the crater as several people stood by as witnesses. Live video footage of this was aired on CBS. Many people who were in the area captured this accident on their mobile phone cameras and posted it on social media.

A huge crater was formed here that could accommodate three or four cars.
The van involved in the accident was owned by Donnie Papadodulous. He reacted emotionally while talking to the media after the incident saying that even though the van had gone, his life was saved.
A special team has been appointed to investigate how the huge pothole formed on the road. The Environment Department is yet to ascertain whether the crater was formed due to rain.
