“A Glimmer of Hope” tells the unknown fate of Miep Gies, the courageous young woman who hid Anne Frank and her family during the Second World War in Amsterdam. A series in 6 episodes to discover on Disney + with in particular Amira Casar.
It is a series which, in its form and aesthetics, recalls the lady’s game, the series about a female chess champion from Netflix. The unknown destiny of the young woman who, during the Second World War, hid Anne Frank and her family. The series is called Uno glimmer of hope. The glimmer of hope is her, the heroine, Miep Gies.
Miep Gies is a young Austrian adopted at the age of 10 by a large family in Amsterdam. Threatened with a forced marriage, she finds a job as a secretary with Otto Frank, a German entrepreneur who has just left his country because of the Nazi measures against the Jews.
It is to her that Otto Frank asks for help when the German army invades the Netherlands: she will hide her family for two years. Bel Powley plays Miep Gies, Amira Casar Anne Frank’s mother. The story of Miep Gies interested the latter: “The series is from the point of view of this young resistance fighter and her husband who really risked their livesexplains the actress. She was a bit of a big mouth, a very daring young woman, very energetic, very quick-witted, and she had to manage every day to bring food, for food, to hide them, to protect. She really risked her life.”

The series also tells the fate of this family, the Franks, who leave Nazi Germany. Amira Casar says: “They went to a tennis club one day and they saw an ad that said Jews are banned. There, Otto Frank makes the decision to move his family to Amsterdam, thinking that it was never going to happen in Amsterdam.”
To embody her mother, Amira Casar immersed herself in Anne Frank’s diary: “I know that she and Anne had the tumultuous relationship of a teenager with a mother who may be authoritarian, but a mother who is nevertheless forward-thinking. We know that Mrs. Frank, in the annex, had a nervous breakdown, a little out of control. She had a hard time adjusting to Amsterdam.”
