Coimbatore: A National Model Senior Secondary School student stunned by winning a gold medal in a national level athletics competition held in Madhya Pradesh. The 17th National Youth Athletic Championship organized by the Athletics Federation of India was held at the DD Nagar Stadium in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. More than 500 athletes from different states of the country participated in the competition.
Arvind, a 12th class student at National Model School, participated in the ‘Decathlon’ category. Arvind bagged the gold medal with a total of 5392 points on the first day of the two-day event, 2877 points and 2515 points on the second day. An appreciation ceremony was held for him yesterday on behalf of the National Model School. As a way of encouraging such outstanding students, the school awarded a cash prize of one lakh rupees to the student who won the medal. They have also completely canceled school fees for class 12.
Student Arvind said, “I have been involved in athletics for the past five years. My success is due to the inspiration and support given by my school and teachers. I am seeing this gold medal as a result of my diligent training every day.” School Secretary Uma, District Sports Officer Ravichandran, School Principal Geetha, Physical Education Director Vivekanandan, Athletics Coach Prakash and parents of the student participated in the event.
