BOLZANO. With the Barometer’s spring survey, the Workers’ Promotion Institute investigated the importance attributed by interviewees to various aspects concerning the employment relationship. The results confirm what has recently emerged from multiple sources: the fixed remuneration element is positioned at the top of the ranking, followed by content and working climate.

“However, we must not make the mistake of underestimating the importance of other aspects and relying on hasty conclusions – warns the IPL Director Stefan Perini – because these also obtained medium-high ratings. Today more than ever, therefore, those who offer the most attractive ‘package’ of working conditions have the best chances of retaining or attracting the best talent.”

The most important criteria highlighted by South Tyrolean employees are decent pay, interesting tasks and a good working atmosphere. In particular, the base salary, i.e. the salary without additional benefits that could potentially change over time, was identified as the most decisive element.

“This result is not surprising considering that employed workers in South Tyrol have to spend a significant portion of their income on basic expenses such as rent, bills and food.high cost of living and the decrease in saving capacity leave little room for other considerations”, comments the Ipl researcher Marie Elena Iarossi.

Other elements, however, are also very popular: if it is true that the basic salary received a rating of between 8 and 10 by 79% of those interviewed, the content of the work eh relationships with superiors and colleagues they obtained high shares (76%). This shows that South Tyroleans are by no means indifferent to their inner drive and work environment.

Only a few respondents consider work-life balance and other benefits to be a decisive factor (55% and 45% respectively). This surprising result is sobering, as these factors are often presented as crucial considerations in both collective bargaining negotiations and interviews.
