“The man is good, but he has no understanding of medicine. I don’t know what can be criticized when he is not a doctor and has no knowledge of medicine. The Ministry of Health has a minister, but he is not the minister of health protection”, said Liutauras Labanauskas, president of the Lithuanian Doctors’ Union (LGS), to Eltai.
“He has no competence, he does not know medicine. The appointment of a person with no connection to medicine to this post was incomprehensible. The Minister of Health does not necessarily have to be a doctor, but he must have had at least some connection with medicine or study from day one. No matter what questions we ask him, there are no answers to them,” he added.
However, L. Labanauskas assures, it is not worth criticizing A. Dulkis himself, but the president who appointed him to the post, G. Nausėdas. According to him, it is not worth changing the minister a few months before the end of the term.
“You can’t criticize him, you have to criticize those who appointed him. The arrow of criticism also falls on the president, after all, he claimed it. Why approve someone who has no competence? All those years, the ministry basically did not work”, explained L. Labanauskas.
“They appointed him themselves, is it worth changing a person for two months?” We are doing our planned work, the minister does not object to it, the vice minister gets involved in it,” he added.
There is a lack of communication from the ministry
At that time, Lithuanian Health Protection Workers’ Trade Union (LSADPS) board chairperson Rūta Kiršienė had comments for Minister A. Dulkis regarding the health centers started to be established last year.
“The establishment of the centers was hindered by little coordination with the medical community. It’s really an open question. This transformation is “downgraded” and the medical community does not see why it is being done, whether it is for the patients or for the doctors,” R. Kiršienė told Eltai.
She added that there is a lack of mutual communication between the ministry and trade unions this term.
“It is not our competence to answer whether the minister should be replaced, but it could be discussed more with the medical community. Now it appears that the ministry is working for itself, that it is distant from the working doctors. Actions should be coordinated more,” she emphasized.
ELTA reminds that G. Nausėda has stated that it is worth critically reviewing the composition of the outgoing Government. The head of the country hinted that he has specific names of ministers who, in his opinion, could be replaced after the Government returns its powers. The Presidency made it clear that the work of the Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickis is most in doubt.
However, on Tuesday, Irena Segalovičienė, the chief adviser to the head of the country, made comments to A. Dulkii on Tuesday. She made it clear that after the latter’s departure from the chair of the head of the ministry, there would be leaders in the health system who could occupy this position.
As provided by law, the Government returns its powers when the President is elected. Powers are considered returned when the Prime Minister delivers a written statement to the Head of State. In turn, the president assigns her to perform her duties until new powers of the Seimas are obtained and a new Cabinet of Ministers is formed.
