The 20th round of the English league started today (Friday) with the victory of Aston Villa 1:2 over Leeds. Unai Emery’s team is in the middle of an unsuccessful season and this is only their seventh victory, but thanks to the points they are in the gap from 12th place, and have not lost three games in a row.
In the game itself, right from the start it was Villa who took the lead in the third minute overall, when Leon Bailey received a great ball on a breakaway, did not get confused and managed to beat Ilan Masella at the first attempt. Emery’s team continued to dominate the field, and in the 66th minute, after a VAR check for a possible difference, Emiliano Buendia celebrated doubling the advantage thanks to a wonderful strike inside the box when he made it 0:2 for Villa. Despite the double deficit, Leeds still had time to shrink when Patrick Bamford received an excellent ball into the box from Joe Gelhardt, and determined the result of the game in the 83rd minute, 1:2 to the host team at Villa Park.
Villa will play in the next round against Southampton and hope to take the full three points in the next game as well in order to move up the table. Leeds on the other hand will play against Brentford who will try to continue their winning streak tomorrow against Bournemouth before that.
