Adeline Hans, the president of the Harmony of the 3rd canton of Reims, still can’t believe it. This Tuesday evening, they and their fellow musicians, dressed in black and white, will be stationed on the emblematic lawn of the Auguste-Delaune stadium, at the opening of the Bleues match. The women’s national football team will face the Norwegians on the 4th day of the Nations League.

“We are going to play the Marseillaise and the Norwegian anthem which is not too difficult technically speaking. We did several rehearsals but above all it was all the organization, positions and timing that required preparation in advance with the Football Federation.”

With these two pieces, the performance will be quick: no more than four minutes for the thirty musicians. “For our small neighborhood orchestra, it’s an honor. As soon as we knew that a French team match was being played in Reims, we contacted the city of Reims and the Fédé. They were immediately interested in our application. For them, it’s a constraint to bring musicians to open the match, they could have just put on a record.

An unknown: the weather

But this Tuesday evening, it will be the drums, tubas, trumpets and trombones but also the clarinets and saxophones which will resonate within the stadium as the national anthems are sung. If the musicians carried out one last rehearsal in real conditions this Monday evening, there remains only one unknown: the weather of the evening.

For Adeline, who will be blowing her favorite instrument, a bassoon, only the rain could disrupt the concert: “We cannot afford to put our instruments with a wooden frame in the rain, especially our drums, so we must not ‘downpour. But there is no doubt, the weather will be on our side,” smiles the musician.
