The shocking discovery was made during a pelvic ultrasound, which was initially aimed at examining an unidentified growth in the woman’s body.
“I was hoping it wasn’t a baby, because I don’t want a child right now,” she shared with her overwhelmed thoughts.
“It’s not a baby, it’s actually something much worse. The doctor looked into my eyes and told me that I have a 7 cm (the size of a chicken egg) dermoid cyst,” the woman said in a video posted on the social network TikTok.
Dermoid cysts are pockets of tissue that can form under the skin and are sometimes present from birth. They can appear anywhere – in the head, spine, ovaries or neck.
“These are reproductive cell tumors, so they can grow any tissue in the body, including teeth and hair,” explained Dr. Myro Figura, anesthesiologist.
He explained that dermoid cysts usually do not cause any symptoms. Therefore, people may not know they have it for years.

Scientists do not know exactly what causes dermoid cysts, and there are no ways to reduce the risk of developing them.

Some doctors recommend surgery, especially when the cyst grows to a diameter of more than 5 cm. Larger dermoid cysts are more likely to cause complications, such as infections or ovarian torsion.
