For the second evening in a row, a gymnasium is requisitioned this Sunday by the city of Nantes in order to shelter people without accommodation exposed to the cold. A significant drop in temperatures has indeed been observed since this weekend. Negative felt temperatures are, for example, announced for the next few nights.
The municipal hall concerned is the Joël-Paon gymnasium, located in the Hauts-Pavés district, near the city center. A total of 45 places are available to accommodate “individuals or couples, with or without animals”, explains the town hall of Nantes.
Reception is managed by Civil Protection at the request of the prefecture. “People are directed to this system by 115, with a reinforcement of the marauding of the social Samu”, adds the city. The same equipment had already opened its doors for a few days during a cold snap in early December.
