The rumor had been circulating for a few days. HBO Max and Warner Bros confirmed on Wednesday that a series adapted from JK Rowling’s books had been ordered, according to the specialized site Variety. According to the few details delivered by the producers, it will feature a brand new cast and each season will be based on one of the franchise’s books.

“We are thrilled to give audiences the opportunity to experience Hogwarts in a whole new way,” said Casey Bloys, President and CEO of HBO & Max Content. “This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy all these years,” he added. “I look forward to being a part of this new adaptation that will allow for a degree of depth and detail only offered by a long-running television series,” said writer JK Rowling, who serves as one of the executive producers.

Worldwide literary success (600 million copies sold), the Harry Potter saga ended in 2007 with the release of the seventh and final volume: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. The eight films adapted from the saga have collectively grossed over $7.7 billion at the worldwide box office. Rumors of a series adaptation had divided fans of the sorcerer’s apprentice, some of whom remain very attached to cinematographic works and actors like Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint or Emma Watson. Warner Bros. did not give further information on the release date.
