The management of Michelin apologized on Monday to its employees at the Clermont site of La Combaude, after the discovery of a hidden camera in the break room. On July 7, “people were puzzled by a hole near a smoke detector in the break room. They went to see and discovered the camera, ”says Eric Gouttebaron, elected CGT at the CSE of the site.
According to him, the management started by denying before acknowledging that the device had been installed “to avoid malicious acts against the distributor of sweets and drinks”. “It’s complete illegality: the regulations require that the camera be visible and that the employees be aware,” he accused.
Michelin confirmed that a camera had indeed been installed after “acts of vandalism, damage and repeated thefts” noted on these distributors for several months. However, she points out, the device was “never connected” because the damage was not renewed.
The Cnil and the Labor Inspectorate will soon be seized
“The objective was to activate it in the event of new thefts after having informed the employees”, added the group. Aware of the “excitement” of the latter after this discovery, Michelin “recognizes that it would have been essential to inform the representative bodies of the personnel and the employees before the installation of the camera”, and presented “its apologies to the ‘all employees concerned’. Michelin “will conduct an internal investigation and take appropriate measures,” the group said.
But the trust is broken. “We have doubts that perhaps elsewhere, in the other Michelin sites, it also exists. Colleagues check but the cleaning had to be done, ”reacts Eric Gouttebaron. The unions will seize the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (Cnil) and the Labor Inspectorate, and the subject will be put on the agenda of the next CSE, on July 20, at Michelin Clermont, a-t -he adds.
