Novak Djokovic would have preferred to arrive as early as next week in hopes of being part of the Australian Championship, but by then the road is still a long way off. The Serb is still awaiting the final decision of the country’s authorities regarding the visa, but despite the uncertainty, today (Tuesday) he was officially ranked first in the first Grand Slam of the year.

Although in recent days Djokovic has been mostly busy with the legal aspect of the visa and his entry into Australia, but on the sporting side, he dreams of leaving Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer behind. The Spaniard, who is ranked sixth in the tournament, the Swiss phenomenon and Djokovic himself have 20 Grand Slams, so if he has more to participate in the tournament, the Serb can pass them.

Russia’s Danil Medvedev, who lost to Djokovic in the Australian Championship final last year, is ranked second in the tournament with Alexander Zebrav, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrei Robles completing the top five and then, as mentioned, Nadal to reach the Grand Slam after winning the Melbourne tournament last week.

Among the women, the local Ashley Barty is ranked first, followed by the Belarusian Arena Sabalenka, the Spanish Garbinia Mugurosa, the Czech Barbour Kreichikova and the Greek Maria Scari. The raffle will take place on Thursday.
