West Indies cricket has reached a historic milestone in terms of gender diversity and inclusion. Cricket West Indies has appointed three independent women directors on its board. Historians see this decision as a milestone for the first time in the world of cricket.
The board appointed Diane Campbell, Louise Victor-Frederick and Debra Coriat-Patton, Cricket West Indies said in a press release announcing it ‘with pride’. They have been appointed for one year. Which will end next March.
Earlier there was a woman director on the Caribbean board. Diane Campbell and Louise Victor-Frederick have been added to the board this year. Also, Debra Coriat-Patton is back on board. He served for the first time from 2019 to 2021.
Cricket West Indies President Kishore Shallow expressed optimism in a press release, saying, ‘I have been a proponent of diversity and inclusion at Cricket West Indies since the beginning to ensure fairness on and off the field. These appointments are a natural progression of our commitment.’
They have entered the board with a reputation and a lot of experience as organizers. Campbell has served as Jamaica’s cricket organizer for over three decades. He has corporate experience. “His expertise in cricket administration, corporate governance and organizational development will greatly assist Cricket West Indies’ strategic initiatives,” said a press release announcing his appointment.
Victor-Frédéric is an accomplished branding and communications strategist from Saint Lucia. His role in the corporate world of Saint Lucia is huge and he is also the director of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture there. Besides, Coriat-Patton is an Attorney-at-Law of Trinidad and Tobago.
In addition to the inclusion of these three women, Hallam Nicholls has also rejoined as an independent director. His appointment will also end in March 2025.
