Since yesterday evening, supporters and sympathizers of Andry Rajoelina have already gathered around the Barea de Mahamasina stadium to attend his inauguration ceremony for a second presidential term.

Most of them spent the night there, a large number come from the regions. They took up residence there due to lack of means to rent hotels or to avoid paying for them. Unlike them, heads of state and government as well as ministers and ambassadors from African and Eastern countries (India and China) are housed in the capital’s large hotels.

In total, five Presidents of the Republic and two Prime Ministers (Rwanda and Tanzania), ministers and ambassadors representing their countries will attend the inauguration ceremony and will honor with their presence their counterpart Andry Rajoelina. Presidents Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau, Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros, Emmerson Mnangagwa of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Filipe Jacinto Nyusi of the Republic of Mozambique landed at Ivato International Airport yesterday .

We have not heard anything about the presence of guests from Western countries. It should also be noted that European countries have not yet even sent their congratulations to the re-elected Malagasy president during the vote on November 16, unlike in 2019 when they greeted his victory before the official inauguration. All this is not to be taken lightly when it comes to international politics. The joint press release from the international community published on December 1 simply affirmed its commitment to working with the president-elect without congratulating him on his election.
