A huge fire at a Massachusetts marina has consumed boats, buildings and vehicles, turning the place into a massive inferno. The fire produced thick black smoke that was picked up by weather radar. A huge fire consumed a complex of boats, buildings, cars. Aerial video taken by WCVB-TV showed a large portion of a boatyard in Massachusetts engulfed in flames as the fire spread to buildings and boats on land. A fire boat can be seen pulling up to the dock and trying to get as close as possible as it sprays a jet of water on one of the burning sailboats.

“A boat caught fire in one of the sheds, and it burned very, very quickly,” said Tim Price, a mechanic at the shipyard. “Everything caught fire, I think we lost everything.” Price said he knew one person who was injured, but did not elaborate. The cause of the fire under investigation, over 100 firefighters from around the region arrived at the fire, including from Rhode Island, about 50 miles away.

Drought conditions and strong winds Friday in the region prompted the National Weather Service to issue an increased fire risk warning. The marina fire sent thick black smoke over southeastern Massachusetts that could be seen for miles. The weather service announced that its radar detected the smoke because it was black and in large amounts.

The boathouse’s website says it has been a family-owned marina since 1962, serving mostly leisure boaters, and has the capacity to store up to 150 vessels during the summer that are not in use or for sale.
