A tidal wave with a huge volume of water from the Tobol River is located 10 kilometers from the Russian city of Kurgan and is moving towards it, the governor of the Kurgan region Vadim Shumkov announced on his Telegram channel, as quoted by TASS.
Earlier, Shumkov reported that a 30-50 kilometer wave was approaching Kurgan due to the release of water from a dam in Kazakhstan. “The volume of water is colossal. All that we see in Kurgan now that Cheryomukhovo is flooded is only a small part of the water volume approaching the city,” he wrote.
Shumkov emphasized that the right coastal part of Kurgan, where there are a large number of orchards and farms, has already been partially flooded. “Nizhnyaya Utyatka” quarter has already been cut off from the city, Cheryomukhovo is flooded, the water overflows over the Malo-Chausovsky bridge and other areas, he added.
According to his data, most of the water goes right into the coastal river plain, flooding everything around at a distance of several kilometers. Evacuation of residents of some parts of Kurgan may soon be difficult due to flooded roads.
Earlier, Shumkov announced a predicted “very severe” situation with rising water. The Ural Hydrometeorological Center reported that from today to Thursday, the water level of the Tobol River in Kurgan is expected to exceed the level of unfavorable (700 cm) and dangerous phenomenon (850 cm). Residents of all settlements in the coastal river plain of the Tobol River are urged to evacuate.
Residents of the villages of Menshchikovo and Kropanka in the Ketovo District of the Kurgan Region were also urged to evacuate due to flooding. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the district. “The water is approaching your homes. Evacuate immediately! Take the children, the elderly and relatives with difficulty moving, do not leave animals. Collect belongings, documents, medicines and leave the danger zone”, – the message states.
As specified in the press service of the administration of the Kurgan region, the water level continues to rise in the area of the settlements Ketovo, Lapteva, Kryukovo, Sanatorna, Temlyakovo, Menshchikovo.
