A joint expedition between Russia and the United States begins in the Arctic

The joint Russian-American scientific expedition NABOS-2021 has begun in the Arctic aboard the Akademik Treshnikov vessel.

As stated in the message on the Telegram-channel “Ice”, on the night of September 11, a Russian-American sea expedition left for the Arctic. Its participants intend to conduct research in the Laptev Sea, the East Siberian Sea and in the deep-water part of the Arctic Ocean.

“The scientific expedition ship” Akademik Treshnikov “left the Norwegian port of Kirkenes with an international group of scientists from Russia, the USA, Japan and Norway on board,” the message says.

At the same time, one of the goals of the expedition is to study climatic changes in the Arctic.

Earlier, exercises of the Northern Fleet began in the region with 8 thousand troops, up to 800 pieces of equipment and up to 50 ships and support vessels.
