This Wednesday is a key day for the driver accused of causing the death of a motorcyclist in the road accident that occurred last Sunday in Sarmiento. It is that during the morning the hearing will take place in the Courts in which the Public Prosecutor’s Office will formalize the accusation and in which it will be defined if he is released or continues in prison, as he is today.
The prosecutor of the UFI Special Crimes will charge Elías Adrián Vargas (21) with the crime of culpable homicide aggravated by the consumption of alcohol, since the test showed that he was driving with 1.24 grams of alcohol per liter of blood, that is, more than double what is allowed (0.5 g/l), judicial sources said.
The deceased was called Ceferino Segovia. The tragic death of that 30-year-old motorcyclist occurred early on Sunday, after colliding head-on with Vargas, the driver of a Volkswagen Gol.
The event occurred around 6, on Route 153, at kilometer 69, near the junction that diverts to Divisadero. At that time, the victim was traveling north on a Beta 110cc motorcycle, when she was hit head-on by Gol de Vargas, who was driving in the opposite direction.
According to sources close to the case, the first tests revealed that the motorist was the one who invaded the opposite lane, impacting the motorcyclist.
The concrete thing is that the crash was very violent. Segovia suffered very serious injuries and, despite the fact that he managed to be assisted at the scene by ambulance personnel, he lost his life when he was transferred to the departmental hospital, Ventura Lloveras.
The investigations have the records of security cameras that captured the incident from afar.
That same Sunday Vargas was imprisoned. This Wednesday, the Prosecutor’s Office can ask the Guarantees judge who is involved in the case to convert simple detention into preventive detention. Or you can request his release, under other measures that serve as a guarantee so that the accused does not escape or hinder the investigation.
For its part, the defense will either agree or confront the prosecutor’s statements. Another important point to take into account is that Vargas will be able to testify if he wishes.
