According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, since the beginning of the war, about 3 thousand Schools and kindergartens operating in Ukraine were damaged or completely destroyed. Kindergarten “Pinokis” is one of the three kindergartens in Borodyanka that were destroyed during the Russian attacks.

According to the director of the kindergarten, Iryna Nosov, this kindergarten was one of the first victims of Russian attacks in 2022. at the beginning of March. It was surrounded by smoke, dust, the windows of the kindergarten were broken, trees were uprooted, and everything inside (toys, furniture and doors) was broken, broken glass was scattered everywhere – no one could visit the premises.

“We had to operate in another kindergarten where we could only accommodate four groups. Parents would call us, but we had to give them a negative answer, especially those with very small children, because we had neither the space nor the equipment to receive them. Parents were looking forward to the reopening of our kindergarten, as some had attended it themselves as children. Parents even register newborns so that eventually their children can also attend this kindergarten. When I shared the news on social media that the kindergarten was reopening, many could not believe that it was actually true. The news about the opening of the kindergarten spread around the city by word of mouth,” said I. Nosov.

The opening ceremony of the kindergarten, which took place during the Independence Day of Ukraine, was attended by the local community, children with their parents, the mayor of Borodyanka town, Iryna Zakharchenko, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Simonas Šatūnas.

“The rebuilt kindergarten is another proof that Ukraine is firmly moving into the future. It is good that so many different partners are helping Ukraine on this path. We will continue to make every effort so that the children grow up and live in a free and safe Ukraine,” said S. Šatūnas.

The “Pinocchio” building was reconstructed with the funds of the US non-governmental organization “Hope Foundation”, but in order for it to be able to continue the smooth process of education again, it was necessary to organize its outdoor infrastructure and provide it with the necessary equipment.
