On June 29, 2023, Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine) had introduced a curfew to avoid damage during the riots following the death of Nahel. A young couple had filed an appeal to have it suspended but their request was dismissed and ordered to pay 3,000 euros to the city for legal costs. A kitty has been opened to help them pay this amount, reports The Parisianthis Thursday.

1,990 euros raised

This 27-year-old lawyer and his companion, a jurist, had judged that the municipal decree was binding on a personal basis but also that it went against the “fundamental freedoms of all”. An opinion that the interim judge did not share, considering that the measure was “justified by the threat of disturbing public order” and that the restrictions were not disproportionate.

Sentenced to pay 1,500 euros each, they asked the city to cancel this debt, but it refused. Ten days after the launch of the kitty, 29 people made donations for a total amount reaching 1,990 euros this Friday. “It warms our hearts,” reacted the young man.
