On May 14, A. Landsbergienė visited the LRT radio show “Pas Nemirą”, where she was interviewed on education topics by LRT journalist Nemira Pumprickaitė.
The journalist also mentioned to G. Landsberg’s wife several rumors surrounding her family, including the crisis in Landsberg’s relationship and the alleged acquisition of real estate in a foreign country.
She denied the rumors about the breakup of her and G. Landsberg’s marriage, but confirmed that the family does indeed have a house in a foreign country. The businesswoman also emphasized that her family members are not planning to go anywhere and leave Lithuania.
“It’s not a rumor – it’s the truth,” assured A. Landsbergienė, clarifying that the real estate will not be used for educational purposes, that is, the house will not become a new school.
“You know how some people have a homestead where they feel very happy, it’s just that we also have a place where we can be completely ourselves and rest, which is very important to us,” A. Landsbergienė said on the show “Pas Nemirą” in May.
“Both the sea and the forests,” she described the landscape when asked in which area she bought the new house.
On Sunday, A. Landsbergienė reacted for the first time to the sensational news about her family’s purchase of a luxury villa on the Greek island of Aegina. In her Facebook post, she mentioned this show, in which she confirmed the fact of the purchase.
G. Landsbergis, for his part, recently said that the speculations that have been going on in the public space since last week, why his family bought real estate on the Greek island, have nothing to do with reality.
The politician claimed that the scandal was caused on a level playing field, ignoring not only the fact that all legally required information about the purchased villa was provided and publicly available in the declaration, but also exceeding the tolerable limits of privacy.
“Perhaps the most hurtful are all the insinuations that have nothing to do with reality. We are trying to initiate a political discourse”, said G. Landsbergis in an interview with Elta.
“Anyone who has purchased any real estate, especially out of state, probably understands that real estate is an acquisition over a long period of time. Our search for property began, like many families we know, back in the midst of COVID-19.
People have been buying homesteads or homestead-style homes, thinking that if pandemics continue, it’s good to have a homestead place. There is no possibility to pay the advance in a month”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Eltai.
According to the politician, his family started looking for real estate in 2020, and a specific object appeared in 2021.
“The real estate agency offered us housing in 2021. (…) Then we started looking specifically and this process reached its natural conclusion”, said the politician.
“The property was declared in accordance with all requirements. Money declared, expenses declared. No one is hiding anywhere. I want to emphasize that the property is private,” he continued.
Since last week, since the discussion in the public space about the property purchased by the Landsbergiai family has not stopped, the minister himself calls for an assessment of the limits of privacy. According to him, the latter topic concerns both security aspects and his family members who are not directly related to politics.
“As much as I would like to, I also avoid talking publicly about my home in Lithuania simply because there are certain security aspects. There are also minor children. Naturally, politicians also have certain privacy limits.
We would like to hope that they are respected, that people who are not directly related to politics, like children or spouses, that they should have the opportunity for privacy. Of course, in response to all the requirements of the law,” he explained.
Lietuvos rytas reported about the Landsbergi family’s purchase a little more than a week ago.
