The money was detained on August 13, when the customs officials checked in detail the passenger bus traveling on the Minsk-Vilnius route at the Medininkų road post.
Already at the beginning of the inspection, the officers found 8 blocks (80 packs) of illegal cigarettes hidden in the luggage of the Belarusian citizen who was driving the car.
The inspection was continued after the violator drew up an administrative offense protocol. While washing their hands in the water tank, the officers found a package with cash contraband in the currency of various countries.
A total of 500,000 Russian Federation Rubles, 242,016 Turkmenistan New Manats, 9,625 Gambian Dalasis, 200 Euros and 200 Brunei Senas were found and seized.
The total value of the seized money is 70,240 euros. A MAZ bus was also detained (its value is being determined).
In the Vilnius department of the Customs Criminal Service (MKT), a pre-trial investigation was launched into smuggling, which is led by the prosecutors of the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office. The bus driver was interrogated, and a pre-trial detention measure was issued to him – the collection of documents.
