The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency announced the seizure of a large amount of counterfeit currency and the arrest of its holders in the holy city of Karbala.
The Intelligence Agency stated in a statement received by the (INA), that “based on accurate intelligence information monitored by the agency’s detachments specialized in combating organized crime in Karbala Governorate, indicating the presence of two suspects riding a vehicle in possession of a large sum of counterfeit national currency, coming from outside the governorate, intending to trade and sell it within the governorate.”
She added, “Immediately, an intelligence and field follow-up team was formed and a tight ambush was set up for them, where the accused were arrested and the amount of money in their possession was seized, as well as the vehicle they were riding in,” indicating that “upon investigation with them, they explicitly confessed to their prior knowledge of the counterfeit money that they intended to circulate within the holy Karbala Governorate.”
She pointed out that “the accused were referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment.”
