In the Gur Chassidim, Shabbat was celebrated twice as much: on Shabbat night, a Shabbat was held in honor of the Rebbe’s great-grandson, the grandson of his son-in-law, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zilberstein, and on Shabbat, the oberif ceremony was held for the Rebbe’s intended son-in-law, Rabbi Yisrael Menachem Alter and the son of the Governor Rabbi Herschel Plushtnik, after which a table was prepared for the morning meal in honor of the joy.
During Shabbat, there were many thousands of Hassidim, according to estimates close to Rabbah, in the Beit Midrash of the Hasids in Jerusalem, who came from all over the country and in the Diaspora to participate in the great joy on Shabbat and in preparation for the wedding celebration that will be held this coming Monday in the Beit Midrash.
A surprise guest on Shabbat morning was the Rebbe Rabbi Pinchas Abuchatzira from Be’er Sheva who sat in the Beit Vagan neighborhood of Jerusalem and walked on foot for a long time on Shabbat morning to the Beit Midrash of the Gur Chassidut, where he participated alongside the Rebbe in the Shabbat morning prayers and remained throughout the entire tishe when he was honored A rabbi was even called to Aliyah in reading the Torah.
Chassidic sources indicate that Rabbi Pinchas is an old friend of the Rebbe’s son, the father-in-law Rabbi Yisrael Menachem Alter, when the two even study together in a fellowship and that is why he bothered to come from a distance and participate in the joy.
As mentioned, the preparation for the wedding itself is at its peak and according to the indications, tens of thousands of people are expected to participate in it throughout the various joyous events that began last Shabbat.
