Member of Awami League‘s Advisory Council, Ekushey Medalist Education Principal Dr. Pranab Kumar Barua passed away. He breathed his last in Chittagong on Sunday (April 28). He was 89 years old at the time of his death.

Pranab Kumar Barua was born on August 23, 1934 in Aburkhil village of Raujan upazila of Chittagong district. He holds an MA in Bengali Literature and Pali. Later he obtained his PhD degree from Calcutta University. Apart from this, he has obtained degrees on religious studies such as Pali Sutras, Adhya, Vinaya Adhya, Abhidharma Adhya.

He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2019 by the Government of Bangladesh for his special contribution to education. He was serving as a member of the advisory council in the current committee of Bangladesh Awami League.

Prime Minister’s Mourning

Dr. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Pranab Kumar Barua.

The Prime Minister prayed for his soul to rest in peace and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family members.

It should be noted that this educator has taught for more than 35 years in his career. He has also taught as a part-time professor in the Pali Department of Dhaka University. Apart from this, he served as the principal of Kanungopara College, Rangunia College, Agsar Balika Mahavidyalaya and Kundeswari College.

Dr. Pranab Kumar Barua has authored several books. Some of his notable books include, Contribution of Bengali Buddhists in the War of Liberation, Buddhism and Culture of Bangladesh, Code of Buddhist Conduct, As I Saw Mahathero, The Way of the World, Contribution of Centenary Buddhist Literaries and Social Life.
