Awami League has announced a month-long program from the first hour of August, the month of mourning. Affiliates and fraternal organizations of the party also have separate programmes.
These programs were announced in a press release signed by Awami League Secretary Biplab Barua on Wednesday (July 31).
In the notice, the party has called on all levels of Awami League leaders, activists, supporters and all allied, social, cultural and political organizations to hold the month-long program. At the same time, the leaders of all the districts, cities, upazilas, police stations, municipalities, unions, wards and all branches of the Awami League have been requested to carry out the program in accordance with the central program adopted on the occasion of National Mourning Day.
On the occasion of the beginning of the month of mourning, Awami Swachhasebak League will hold a procession of lights in the direction of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi at 12:01 pm on July 31. At the same time, Matsyajivi League and Bangladesh Chhatra League will light candles in memory of martyrs of August 15.
Voluntary blood donation program, discussion meeting and doa mahfil organized by Krishak League will be held at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium at 10 am on August 1 (Thursday). Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the chief guest. Jubo Mahila League will pay tribute to the portrait of the Father of the Nation at 7 am. Jatiya Sramik League will hold a condolence rally in front of Awami League’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue on the same day at 10 am.
From August 1 to August 31, Jubo League will distribute food to the needy and the needy in remembrance of the martyrs of August 15, Koran Khatam, August 15. Besides, Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League will organize a month-long Korankhani and Doa Mahfil at Bad Fajr Banani Cemetery Mosque.
Krishak League will organize voluntary blood donation program, discussion meeting, distribution of food among the needy, tree planting and prayer mahfil in all districts, upazilas and unions across the country on Friday, August 2.
Fishermen’s League will hold a tree planting program on Saturday, August 3. On August 4, Awami Jubo League across the country will issue a memorandum to the Youth Rally/ Standardization/ Positioning Program and Divisional Commissioners. On the occasion of the birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal on August 5, a wreath will be placed on his portrait at Abahani Club premises at 8 am. Tributes will be offered at Banani Cemetery at 8:45 am. Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League will hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of Sheikh Kamal’s birthday at its central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue at 11 am.
Besides, Jubo League, Chhatra League and Fishermen’s League will hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal’s birthday. Awami Swachhasebak League will organize a discussion meeting and photo exhibition on the same day at 11 am on the occasion of Sheikh Kamal’s birthday.
On August 7, the Jubo League will present a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the Youth Rally/Standardization/Standing Program in all upazilas, police stations, municipalities and unions of the country. Awami League, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League and other affiliated organizations will pay tribute, Koran Khatam, Milad and Doa Mahfil at Banani Cemetery on the occasion of the birthday of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib on August 8. Mahila Sramik League will organize National Mourning Day discussion meeting at Bangabandhu Avenue central office of Awami League on Saturday, August 10. Besides, Mahila Awami League will hold a discussion meeting at Bangabandhu Avenue Central Office of Awami League on the occasion of Bangmata’s birthday.
Awami Swachhasebak League will hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day on August 11. Fishermen’s League will release fish fry on Monday, August 12, on the occasion of National Mourning Day. On the same day at 3 pm at Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib Convention Center of BSMMU, the Freedom Doctors Council will hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of the National Day of Mourning.
Awami Swachhasebak League will hold a three-day (August 13 to August 15) photo exhibition on the occasion of the National Mourning Day at Dhanmondi 32 historical Bangabandhu Bhavan premises on August 13. The National Mourning Day program on August 15 includes half-masting of national and party flags and hoisting of black flags at sunrise at Bangabandhu Bhavan and all offices of the organization across the country, including the central office. At 6:30 in the morning, placing wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Bhavan premises in Dhanmondi, the historical memorial of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Tribute to martyrs of August 15, shrine visit, Fateha recitation, prayer and Milad Mahfil at Banani graveyard at 8 am.
Tribute, Fateha recitation, Milad and Doa Mahfil at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara at 12 noon. A delegation of Awami League, Gopalganj District and Tungipara Upazila Awami League leaders will be present in the program. Dua and Milad Mahfil in all mosques of the country including National Mosque Baitul Mukarram, except Bad Zohar.
Also as part of nationwide special prayer programs in temples, pagodas, churches, places of worship centrally on that day at first hour (12:01 PM) at Mirpur Baptist Church (3/7-A Senpara, Parvata, Mirpur-10) candle lighting and special prayers, at 9 AM. The Christian community will organize a special prayer at Holy Rosary Church, Tejgaon. The Buddhist community will organize a prayer meeting at Merul Badda International Buddhist Vihar in the capital at 10 am and the Hindu community will organize a prayer meeting at Dhakeshwari National Temple at 11:30 am. In the afternoon, food distribution and mass feast will be organized among poor, orphans and distressed people across the country.
Mahila Awami League will organize doa and milad mahfil at historical Bangabandhu Bhavan premises at Bad Asr Dhanmondi number 32. National Mourning Day discussion meeting will be held on August 16 at 4 pm at Bangabandhu International Conference Center or Dhaka District Awami League Building. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the meeting.
On the occasion of August 17 serial bombing day, a discussion meeting will be held at the Bangabandhu Avenue Awami League central office at the initiative of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League. On this day, the Volunteer League will form a human chain to demand justice for the bombers. Chhatra League will hold a rally against ‘terrorism and fundamentalism’ in protest against series of bombings across the country. The Jubo League will hold rallies against militancy and fundamentalism and display black flags across the country.
Dhaka District South Farmers League and Jatiya Sramik League Dhaka Metropolitan North will hold a mourning day discussion on Sunday, August 18. Bangladesh Krishak League will organize a painting competition on Bangabandhu with farmers’ children at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium on Tuesday, August 20. Sramik League Dhaka Metropolitan South will hold a discussion meeting on National Mourning Day at 3 pm on the same day.
On the occasion of August 21 hellish grenade attack day, Awami League will organize a tribute and discussion meeting at Bangabandhu Avenue central office premises of Awami League. Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will preside over the meeting. At 5:21 PM, Awami Swachhasebak League will pay tribute and light a candle in memory of those killed in the grenade attack. Farmers League will hold discussion meeting and prayer ceremony.
On August 22 (Thursday), a discussion meeting, prayer ceremony and food items will be distributed on the occasion of the National Mourning Day by Dhaka Metropolitan Northern Farmers League at Krishibid Institute.
August 23 (Friday) Women’s Awami League will hold a discussion meeting at Bangabandhu Avenue Central Office of Awami League at 10 am in memory of the martyrs in the August 21 grenade attack and on the occasion of Ivy Rahman’s death anniversary. Mahila Sramik League will protest in front of the National Press Club at 10 am demanding the execution of the planners of the 21 August grenade attack. On the same day, the Free Specialist Medical Camp will be held in all the districts by the Independence Medical Council.
On August 24 (Saturday) at 8 am in Banani Cemetery, Awami League, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League will organize a tribute, doa and milad mahfil in memory of Shaheed Begum Ivy Rahman in the grenade attack on August 21. Also, under the initiative of Manikganj, Narsingdi and Gazipur district Krishak League, the Krishak League will hold black badges, plant trees, hold discussions and distribute clothes and food among orphans in their respective districts. The fishermen’s league will discuss mourning day on the same day.
Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League will distribute milad, doa mahfil and food items on August 25 in memory of those killed on August 15 and 21. Besides, Central Jubo League will conduct tree plantation program at district, metropolitan, upazila, thana, municipality, union and ward levels from August 25 to 31.
On August 26 (Monday), Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League will distribute milad, doa mahfil and food items in memory of those killed on August 15 and 21. On this day, discussion meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day, Awami Matsyajeevi League.
On the occasion of the death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on August 27, Awami League and its affiliates paid tribute at the Kabir’s tomb at Dhaka University Mosque premises at 8 am. Apart from this, the Bangladesh Chhatra League will organize a tribute on the 49th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and a music poem and story reading entitled ‘Ever-elevated Shir: Nazrul to Bangabandhu, Bangabandhu to National Ratna Sheikh Hasina’.
The Jatiya Sramik League will organize a mourning day discussion meeting on Thursday, August 29 at 3 pm. Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League will hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day at the Dhaka District Awami League office in Tejgaon on Friday, August 30 at 3 pm. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the event as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Krishak League will hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of National Mourning Day at its central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue on August 31 (Saturday). Besides, on the occasion of the National Mourning Day, the Bangladesh Chhatra League will organize a rally titled ‘Lakh Mujib Gharhe Gharhe’ at the historical Suhrawardy Udyan in commemoration of August, the month of eternal mourning for Bengalis.
The press release also informed that the date, venue and time of the month-long program may change, which will be intimated to the media in due course.
