A leak in the pipeline, which supplies oil to Europe from Russia, was found not far from the town of Chodziec in central Poland, Reuters reports on August 6. The Polish company PERN noted that its specialists are now investigating the causes of the incident.

According to the company, there are fire and rescue services at the scene of the incident. It is not yet known how long the repair work will take. At the same time, PERN notes that there is no threat to residents.

In July 2023, the European Union introduced the 11th package of sanctions against Russia. They envisage, among other things, the cessation of oil supplies through the “Druzhba” pipeline branch, which passes through the territory of Belarus and is intended for supplies to Poland, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania. Germany and Poland, as noted by RBC, from the beginning of 2023 themselves refused to purchase Russian oil. Berlin received only a small amount of oil from Kazakhstan through the pipeline. European countries have been taking extra measures to ensure the security of their energy infrastructure since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. In the autumn of 2022, there were explosions on the branches of the Russian gas pipeline “Northern Stream” on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Investigations conducted by the authorities of Sweden, Denmark and Germany have shown that the gas pipelines exploded, but the culprits have not yet been identified. Russian authorities believe that the USA and its allies are interested in the accident. A number of publications in the Western media talked about Russia’s possible involvement in the explosions.
