Last Friday around 2pm (local time) residents of the town of St Andrews near the town of Bruges in western Flanders, Belgium were stunned to see a light aircraft crashing in front of their eyes on the road.

The Dyn’Aero MCR-01 light aircraft began diving at altitude and the pilot who lost control of the aircraft, realized he was about to crash, opened a parachute to slow down the plane and reduce the force of the ground impact and prayed that the incident ended safely.

Indeed, as the pilot had hoped, the plane struck with the front of the road and the pilot hurried to escape outside the cockpit with only minor injuries.

The pilot later told state emergency services that he had lost control of the plane due to a technical failure. Firefighters rushed to the scene but the plane did not catch fire.

Residents of the town say the road is usually congested but no one else was involved in the incident.
