A lot has been done, but improvements need to be continued / Day

Let’s look back to the year 2024, in which there have been many and various events in the field of education – there have been discussions and controversies of various scales. In general, in your assessment, what was the past year like for educators – what has been positive, and what has left a kind of bitter aftertaste?

If we have to evaluate in general, I would say that there is a lot of good news for our members, but the saddest thing is how it all had to be achieved, how much time and nerves had to be invested, and somewhere maybe there was damage to relations, undermining of some bridges of cooperation with some officials, because each of our achievements, the solution of some problem, in our opinion, has required a disproportionate amount of time and also nerves.

In addition to the positive news, I would like to point out that the balancing of the workload of pedagogues continues – it has already been ensured for three groups of pedagogues this school year. Yes, of course, also the topical issue of wages – it is being fulfilled, and we achieved that from January the principles of equality will be observed (toward teachers – ed.) similarly to other workers in the public sector – for the lowest wage rate they will be plus 2.6% , which we think is fair. Also, there are more – and better – teaching aids, as we keep reminding you about it, but unfortunately, there is still a lot, a lot missing.

We also achieved that the cost basket of vocational education will be reviewed, there are also financial solutions both now this school year and will be from January, that is, additional money has been allocated to ease the burden of economic expenses on educational institutions, since the costs in this area have not been reviewed since of 2007. At the moment, we have reached a partial solution and we are happy about that.

We are also happy – thanks to the support of the President – for two things, namely, the responsibility of parents has increased – if they do not inform the educational institution that the child may pose a threat to the health or life of others, greater steps have been taken in reducing violence in educational institutions and in implementing the concept of a safe school . Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for us very long. We also achieved that educators have the right (but not the obligation) to check students’ bags and the principal has the right to determine the abuser’s place of education other than school, if the abuser can pose a threat to both students and the teaching staff. It really took us several years to settle this issue, but finally last year it was defined in the regulatory framework.
