The tenants are a couple in their 40s – she is a spokesperson for one of the largest theaters in Israel and he is the owner of a game application development company, and their two children are of school age (14 and 12).

The apartment is in the Babli neighborhood in the north of Tel Aviv, in a building that has passed TAMA and on the street level of a grocery store and a gym. The apartment is part of the addition the building received, so it is new from the nylons. It includes four rooms spread over one floor and has an area of 170 square meters + 20 square meters of balconies.

The couple put a lot of effort into looking for a property in the quiet neighborhood near the park where they lived for years, and where their two children were also born and raised. They dreamed of a Tel Aviv loft that gives the sense of space of a villa in the air, and the main constraint was to build a luxury apartment in the heart of an urban landscape of old buildings. The renovation process lasted about two years – from the beginning of the planning until the family entered the house. The additional construction cost, from the shell level, is about NIS 3 million.

The design motto was not to be afraid of non-trivial positions of functions, or to break the convention of “every piece of furniture needs a back” (wall). The outline of the apartment is in the shape of a symmetrical square and it dominates half of the floor. The master suite was attached to a narrow and long balcony that was built as an addition on the north front of the apartment, and it has a floating counter where the couple enjoy sitting in the evening and looking out over the neighborhood and the nearby Yarakon Park. The eldest son’s room was designed in the corner room, far from the public part and the entrance. A bathroom is located nearby and completes a living unit that enjoys maximum privacy. In the additional area, the public space that includes a living room, a kitchen and the 12-year-old’s living unit, which includes a bedroom and an enclosed bathroom, was designed In the “box” is carpentry. One side of the box forms a foyer at the entrance to the house, and a floating piece of furniture was hung on the wall opposite it. Next to it, near the door, a functional entry closet was assembled that hides electrical and communication infrastructures. It was decided not to allocate space for separate guest toilets, so a door to the bathroom was designed on the long side of the box, which faces the living room. The door is embedded in the plane of the wall, like the one leading to the daughter’s bedroom. Washing and drying machines are located in a niche next to the window with a hidden laundry, and the doors to it are also hidden in the plane of the side of the box.

The parents’ unit Designed like a room in a boutique hotel. The bed is in the center of the room, in front of the showcase overlooking the Tel Aviv landscape, and its design creates the illusion of levitation. Behind the back of the bed is a work area made of a glass table with a light presence, which contributes to the illusion of a hidden corner. Most of the furniture in the apartment is detached from the walls to enhance the sense of space and allow for circular movement. The sleeping area and the bathroom are separated by sliding glass partitions that hang on a hidden rail in the ceiling, a mechanism that allows you to close and open the doors and create different situations in the room. The face division of Bathing area Unique: a floating cabinet with two sinks faces the room, and above it two mirrors hang with the help of ironwork mounted on the ceiling. This element also hides behind it a spacious shower. A permanent glass wall separates the shower from the toilet and the bathtub. The floor is covered with fishbon tiles.

The design wanted to create a feeling in the public space It’s as if the apartment is floating above the city, which is why furniture items that are not attached to the walls were chosen. In the living room there are two sofas facing the balcony and a TV screen on a pole, which can be rotated when sitting on the balcony. This concept is also reflected in the design the kitchen, which includes three sides and two of them – high cabinets and an island – in free standing. To balance the industrial feeling that comes from the metallic materiality of the tall unit, wood with a wavy texture was chosen for the fronts of the low cabinets.

The color palette chosen for the apartment was influenced by the use of unique materials, such as parquet that has undergone an oxidation process that gives it an old-fashioned look reminiscent of broken parquet and provides a warm base and a sense of intimacy. In addition, iron and glass were chosen in warm tones, materials that influenced the carpentry work in the apartment and its colors; A white base leans towards the browns which is combined with pink touches that appear in the library, in the partitions of the closets and in the master suite. The initial height of the apartment (290 cm) allows you to plan a 10 cm high plaster ceiling lowering, into which the technical lighting fixtures were incorporated. Planning a lighting strip for the entire length of the apartment. To balance and combine soft and industrial, four iron lamps were hung above the surface of the island in a sand-colored iron that tends to brown and corresponds with the other choices.
