Lalée Pinoncely did not come up with this idea alone. It was his daughter, a business school student, who suggested he create Waze for skiing. The Lyon business leader named her app Skiif. “80% of people ski on 20% of the slopes and only use ten lifts on average, often due to fear of moving away or lack of knowledge of an area. It’s a problem for the stations,” notes Lalée Pinoncély.

To better regulate this continuous flow of skiers in winter, the Skiif navigation application offers various features. It indicates, for example, the level of use of the slopes in the eight resorts of the 3 Vallées (Savoie) – notably Courchevel, Méribel and Les Ménuires – where it is deployed for the first time this winter.

As with traffic jams and accidents reported on Waze, it is the community of users who enrich the application, providing the latest information in real time. Another feature intended for skiers afraid of getting lost on the slopes: the “ski room”. “You choose the snow front closest to your home and the application takes you there,” explains Lalée Pinoncély.

Relatively energy-efficient geolocation

“Skiif also indicates nearby toilets, mountain restaurants, points of interest, etc. The Limoges developers who developed the application have thought of everything: phone batteries discharge very quickly in the mountains, they imagined a geolocation system that consumes as little energy as possible. »

Other features are expected, such as the number of kilometers traveled. The founder of Skiif is targeting 300,000 downloads this winter in the 3 Valleys, or 5% of customers, before an international deployment in 160 major resorts from next year.
