A Malayali student who was waiting for a bus in the UK was hit by a car and died

Pothankot: A Malayali student was killed by a car while waiting for a bus in Leeds, UK. Athira (25), daughter of Anilkumar-Lali couple, died in Thiruvathira, near Pattathinkara bridge at Khudakkal. The accident happened at 8.30 am (London time) on Thursday.

Athira and others were waiting for the bus when the out-of-control car rammed into the bus stop. Athira was pronounced dead at the scene by West Yorkshire Police. UK Athira is a project management student at Beckett University, Leeds. Athira went to UK on 15th of last month.

Relatives have informed that they are working to bring the dead body, which is kept in the Bradford hospital mortuary, home. The injured were taken to the hospital by air ambulance. A middle-aged man was also injured in the accident. The police arrested the woman who was driving the car.

Athira’s husband is Rahul Shekhar, an officer in Muscat. The daughter is one year old Yamika.
