The accident caused shock waves in the world of hockey. A man suspected of manslaughter in the death of American hockey player Adam Johnson was arrested Tuesday in England, several British and American media reported.

Adam Johnson died on October 30 following a serious accident. The Nottingham Panthers club player was injured in the neck by the skate blade of one of his opponents, Matt Petgrave, during a match against Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police did not specify the identity of the man arrested on Tuesday. “He remains in police custody for the moment,” she only indicated, specifying that the man had been arrested on suspicion of “involuntary homicide”.

“Our investigation was launched immediately after this tragedy and we have carried out extensive inquiries since then to piece together the events that led to the loss of Adam in these unprecedented circumstances,” a police spokesperson said, as quoted by THE Guardian.

A minute of silence in tribute to Adam Johnson was observed on Sunday for the Sheffield Steelers’ first home game since the accident. Matt Petgrave did not take part in the match, but his name was applauded by fans when he appeared on the scoreboard.
